Massage therapy uses a variety of techniques to manipulate your joints and soft tissue to improve your body’s overall health. Massage increases the body’s supply of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, which help release waste from the muscle tissue. Massage also accelerates your body's own natural ability to heal itself.

What is a Registered Massage Therapist?

Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are licensed practitioners who specialize in hands-on soft-tissue muscle therapy. Their hands-on techniques help to alleviate pain, reduce muscle tighten and improve functional movement. All massage therapists working at PhysioFit Health & Rehab are licensed with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

How does Massage Therapy work?

Different massage techniques can stimulate various physiological responses in the human body. Some of the positive effects of massage include breaking down scar adhesions, improving blood circulation and eliminating waste products.

What techniques do RMTs use?

Your therapist will decide which massage techniques to use based on your current condition. Some of the commonly used techniques include
Efflerurage - slow, rhythmic and gliding strokes
Petrissage - kneading, pressure and rolling muscle groups
Friction - strong pressure applied to muscle fibres without moving across skin
Deep Tissue Massage - strong finger pressure used on deeper muscle groups
Sports massage - technique tailored for athletes to assist in training and injury prevention

What sort of conditions do you treat?

The following is a list of commonly encountered conditions by our RMTs. Please note that list is not exhaustive.
back pain
neck pain
muscle tension
repetitive strain injuries
work related stress symptoms
delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

Hello Everyone, due to the recent spread of the Covid-19 in the GTA we have decided to temporarily close Physiofit Health and Rehab for at least 2 weeks. We take the safety of our patients and staff very seriously and believe this is the best move to help stop the spread of this virus within our community. We thank you for your support during these difficult times and hope we can still assist you with any questions or concerns you may have. We will do our best to contact clients who are in the middle of treatment plans to see if we can provide remote education, exercise prescriptions and recommendations to help you continue your path to recovery.
